One of the main reasons we created Atellani's blog was not only to share what we've been working on lately, but also things we like. We are always wandering around blogs & Kickstarter in search of new discoveries. Recently we've been collecting a bunch of interesting projects that involve animals and wildlife photography. So today, we'll be sharing our favorite ones with you.
For Carnival (and many other festivities) we often dress ourselves as animals. What if animals could dress themselves as humans? How would we feel? Would they be able to pull off any outfit? Which kind of style would fit each animal the most? To answer all of these questions and make a good laugh, Barcelona-based photographer Yago Partal has created a cute yet hilarious series of portraits. A collection of animals dressed up as humans with trendy clothes. With this project Yago hopes to raise awareness, in a funny way, of animals who need protection. Who need to be seen as "one of us". Zoo Portraits became a book and ten percent of the profit will be donated to animal welfare organizations. Who wouldn't want to smile while helping these beautiful creatures?

Elliott Erwitt is a well-known American photographer. His work features black and white photography of spontaneous, outrageous, and ironic situations that can happen in everyday's life. He was invited by Robert Capa himself to take part of the Magnum Photos group. During his career, he photographed famous characters such as Marilyn Monroe, Nixon, the Kennedy family and many more. But not only, Erwitt also had a special passion for dogs and dedicated many photographic books for his snaps of dogs in funny situations. Erwitt is a master of Cartier-Bresson's "decisive moment" philosophy. They believe there is one moment at which the elements in motion are in all balance. That's when the perfect picture is made.
Speaking of dogs... we can't not mention the "Shake" project by Carli Davidson. Have you ever wondered what face you make while you sneeze? It's just some one of those moments you may never be able to catch. Well, we guess it works the same when it comes to dogs shaking their heads. Shake is a photo collection that features expressive close-up portraits of dogs while they are doing their funny head shakes and drooling. It gives us an unexpected glance at the dogs’ personalities in a way we've never seen before. How is the photographer able to produce such amazing shots? She wets their heads so they feel like they have a reason to shake it. With a powerful camera set to capture every quick movement, the photographer is able to snap the dogs' funny expressions, ears flapping and many other hilarious details.

This photographic collection is the third book of a series of wildlife photography curated by Margot Raggett. Remembering Great Apes is a beautiful coffee table book, full of images donated by many of the world's top wildlife photographers. This projects mission is, through the donated images, to raise awareness of the threats facing various wildlife species. With the book sales, Margot hopes to find funds to protect them from being mistreated and killed. Her first two books, Remembering Elephants and Remembering Rhinos, were both funded through Kickstarter campaigns and were highly acclaimed. They have so far raised more than £300,000 between them for conservation and this is all thanks to Kickstarter!

Sometimes in life you find yourself in a dark place, in search of something that can make you happy again. That is how Dogs in Cars was born. Martin Usborne was looking for a reason to put a smile back on his face again until he stumbled upon a dog in a car and found beauty in this particular moment. Dogs can't articulate words and may seem vulnerable sometimes, but are also hopeful creatures that can fill one's life with joy. Most of the time, it is difficult to separate ourselves from our dogs so we bring them around with us. But what about those situations where we can't bring them in the bank or in a store? Well, unfortunately they'll need to wait a little bit inside the car. That's when the magic happens, if Martin is around. Good boy.

Seven years of wildlife photography in East Africa curated in a sixty picture collection, with an even split between black & white and color shots. That is what "As Long As There Are Animals" is made of. David Lloyd believes that Print is the definitive and the best way to display photographs, whether as framed fine art or as part of a book. His project doesn't aim to provide a collection of photos of animals. Moreover it's about what he has seen, found and photographed throughout the years. In this book, you can feel the animal's personalities, their self-awareness. It's about the inherent dignity and a right for all living creatures to live peacefully, just as we expect for ourselves.
